Overview:

Monarda didyma or Scarlet Beebalm 'Jacob's Cline' is a mildew-resistant perennial growing up to 5' tall and features tubular, two-lipped, scarlet red flowers. It blooms in the summer (June-August) and as part of the mint family, its foliage emites a minty fragrance when bruised or crushed. It is attractive to pollinators including hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. It tolerates deer, rabbit, mildew, clay, and droughts.

Care:

Plant in average to moist, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. Partial shade is recommended for hotter climates. Do not dry out soil! Regularly water to maintain plant and to allow roots to establish. Foliage declines after bloom if it is infected with leaf diseases, so provide adequate air circulation. To prolong summer bloom, deadhead flowers. This will also prevent self seeding as it spready by rhizomes. It is recommended to divide clumps every 3-4 years to prevent overcrowding.
